A little about Nicole

I grew up in Tracy, CA and attended UC Davis where I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, and then obtained my Masters of Science in Psychology from CSU Chico. I have worked for a variety of non-profit and governmental agencies in Butte and Lassen Counties for over 20 years, working with a wide variety of clients of all ages. My time in the mental health system has taught me how much I like helping those around me be better at what they do and simplify or streamline things that don’t have to be as complicated as they often feel. When I am not at work, I enjoy gardening and trying new recipes, or joining my family on outdoor adventures. I am an avid reader when the house is quiet and there aren’t a million other things to get done, so naturally I don’t read as often as I would like. Many people have told me I am a great trip planner.  I get excited about planning trips to new places by researching interesting information and things to do. It's a similar feeling when I'm helping others learn and grow in their own journey!

A little about Kevin

I was born and raised in the Chico area, attending CSU Chico for both my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and my Masters of Science in Psychology. I have provided services primarily in Butte, Lassen, and Glenn counties for the past 14 years in various settings that has allowed me to provide mental health services in the office, in schools, and in the community. I’ve always enjoyed helping others and am excited to be able to continue doing so through our own business. When I am not at work I enjoy many hobbies, most of which involve the opportunity to be creative or work with my hands on various projects.  I also love spending time in nature enjoying outdoor activities. I am not a thrill seeker or particularly competitive, but I do have a tendency to get in over my head.  Whether it's a home remodel or a "short hike” it's easy to dive in with excitement, and then put in long stubborn hours getting to the destination.  I enjoy learning new things, and spending time with people of all ages and backgrounds, which I have found often goes hand in hand.

Some of our thoughts about therapy

Although many therapists talk about what they specialize in or what modality of therapy they focus on, we have a more plain-speaking approach to talking about what we do. We believe each person, each couple, and each family is different. Research has shown that mental health outcomes are far more closely connected to the quality of the relationship between client and therapist than the type of therapy, which in turn means that finding a good fit can be the most important thing when deciding on which therapist to see. It also means that it takes time to form a supportive relationship in order to make progress, and many times the deeper or more personal the issue the more this is the case.

Whether you choose our services or not, we encourage you to find a therapist that helps you feel heard, understood, and treated as a worthy, valued, and capable human being. Ultimately treatment progress is less about being able to come up with the perfect intervention or convince anyone of what they need to change or do. Progress is more about developing a deeper understanding of issues and relationships in a consistently supportive, nonjudgmental environment. Positive change is facilitated in the therapy office, but it happens out there in the world, in each of our lives. Going to therapy is a lot like planting a seed. It can be the start of something wonderful and new, but it depends on what each of us does once sessions are over that nurtures our growth.
